Pastor Fred Bio
Fred Roberts was raised in a Christian home his parents were converted under the Ministry of John G. Lake.
He graduated from The Assemblies of God Bible College in England under the principalship of Donald Gee and was tutored by men such as Howard Carter. He ministered alongside early pioneers of the healing ministry such as George Jeffrey's.
Fred Roberts ministered in one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in South Africa for 25 years and built one of the largest Churches in the denomination and pioneered a number of Churches. Subsequent to the Charismatic Renewal in the 70's, he left the denomination he was in and established one of the first Interdenominational non-racial Churches in South Africa and called it Christian Centre.
Up until this time many Churches in South Africa were divided along racial lines. The trans-denominational, non-sectarian Church was started by having a Sunday afternoon Healing and Miracle Service. Within a few weeks this had grown to more than 2000 each week coming to the miracle Service.
This truly non-racial congregation had been in existence long before discriminatory laws were abolished. Durban Christian Centre is one of Africa's true "people-churches". The people of the land are the people in the church. We see all ethnic race groups in attendance at all meetings. It is simply a church full of God's people.
At present the attendance has grown to such an extent that a new building, the Jesus Dome has been built to accommodate the crowds.
Out of the miraculous move of God, Fred Roberts' ministry has continued to grow. He has many Churches and Ministers that relate to him nationally and internationally. On invitation he conducts miracle and healing crusades all over the world with wonderful results. He love's what he calls Evangelism in the Raw, i.e. going into a city and reaching out to the un-churched with demonstrations of love, salvation and the power of God to heal.
Today his Church in Durban, South Africa, is the largest in the City with more than 25.000 in attendance who meet at various places within the greater city limits. Seven services are held simultaneously each Sunday.
The church has a sound structure of Life groups, which meet each week and a well-functioning Bible College has been running for over 25 years. Many college graduates are now pastoring at various areas around South Africa and throughout the world.
He has 8 satellite Churches within the City and on each Sunday 100 or more people are born again.
Miracles are the norm and not the exception in his church. His wife, Nellie, ministers alongside him and is a significant reason for his success. She is a powerful prophetess in her own right.
Fred Roberts is recognised as an anointed man of God, who knows God's voice and ministers with authority, touching many lives for God and His Church. He is also known as the forerunner of the ongoing revival in South Africa, a father in the faith and a wise master builder.
